Out & About

Whitby is a traditional maritime town, with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses, sandy blue flag beach, magnificent stretches of coast, spectacular cliffs and pretty bays, making it a truly great place for a holiday. From the stunning 13th century Abbey ruins sited on the cliff-top, 199 steps lead you down to the old town where you will find yourself surrounded with ‘Olde World Charm’. Through the narrow, cobbled streets you will find an array of unique shops, offering everything from local crafts, famous Whitby Jet jewellery, maritime memorabilia, antiques and much, much more.

If it’s food you enjoy then Whitby has it all!…. from traditional Sea-Shanty Inns serving fresh local produce to quirky English tea rooms and Award winning seafood restaurants to takeaways serving probably some of the best Fish & Chips in the country. And when the shop shutters come down Whitby lights up!….soak up the atmosphere in one of the many wine bars over looking the harbour, have a pint in a cosy pub or spend the evening in one of Whitby’s delightful restaurants.

If you fancy a change then only a short drive away are the North Yorkshire Moors where there are a number of delightful Yorkshire Villages to explore, or head along the coast and take in some of the beautiful coastal villages such as Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay, probably one of the most charming and picturesque fishing villages in the country.

If you prefer to go by foot then Whitby is a fantastic starting point for the casual or dedicated walker, situated on The Cleveland Way it skirts the eastern edge of the moors and alongside the sea, all providing fantastic views.
